About the Certificate in Education, Professional Graduate Certificate in Education and Postgraduate Certificate in Education (Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector) programme
These programmes, validated by the University of Hull, lead to a professional qualification in further, higher and adult education and training.
If you are currently, or want to start to pursue a career in teaching or training young people or adults, these programmes provide a way for you to develop your teaching skills, reflect on current ideas about education and creatively explore the professional opportunities open to you.
PGCE – where the subject of your Degree is different to the subject you wish to teach, then you must possess other qualifications relating to that subject at NVQ Level 3 or above.Certificate in Education – You will need a minimum Level 3 in the subject area you wish to teach, you must be in paid employment as a teacher or trainer for a minimum 150 hours at a recognised training establishment, and you will normally have a minimum two years post qualification ‘field’ experience.
Voluntary teaching or training may be acceptable if undertaken on behalf of a charity registered with the Charities Commission.
What you will learn
This enables you to gain Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) status for those teaching in appropriate contexts. They do not lead to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) for those intending to teach in schools.
