Principles of Dementia Care

Are you looking to improve your knowledge of dementia care by completing a dementia course? UK employers, particularly in the health and social care sector, are often looking for candidates with knowledge of this complex condition. This qualification aims to provide you with the vital knowledge needed to begin tackling dementia through understanding what it is and how to support those who are affected by it. It also ensures that you will develop an essential understanding of caring for people with dementia, as well as covering the benefits of positive communication and the importance of individualised, person-centred care.

Distance Learning enables the learner to study remotely at a time and place that suits them.

The learning materials will be provided and each learner will receive professional support and guidance throughout their course.

Average Completion Time: 27 Hours however this may differ depending on the learner.

Entry Requirements: Minimum Level 1 Literacy and Numeracy, Ideally need a work place or work with individuals with Dementia.

Submission Dates: 1 Unit to be submitted every 2 weeks

Completion Methods Available: Paper Resources/Paper Assessment, Online Resources/Online Assessment

The Paper Based Version of Principles of Dementia Care is split into 5 manageable units:

Unit 1: Understand the different forms of dementia

Unit 2: Learn how to support individuals through person-centred care

Unit 3: Develop knowledge and understanding of care

Unit 4: Learn positive communication methods

Unit 5: Learn issues around the use of medication

 

The Fully Online Version of Principles of Dementia Care is split into 7 manageable units:

Unit 1: Dementia awareness

Unit 2: Person-centred approach to the care and support of individuals with dementia

Unit 3: Understand the factors that can influence communication and interaction with individuals who have dementia

Unit 4: Understand equality, diversity and inclusion in dementia care

Unit 5: Understand the administration of medication to individuals with dementia using a person-centred approach

Unit 6: Understand behaviour in the context of dementia

Unit 7: Understand the benefits of engaging in activities in social care

 

This course is Fully funded to anyone who meets the Eligibility Criteria.

Eligibility criteria as follows:

  • Candidates must be aged 19 or over before the start of the academic year
  • Candidates age 19-23 must already hold a full Level 2 qualification
  • Candidates must have lived within the EU for the last 3 years
  • Not enrolled onto any other course and must not have completed their chosen course previously

If the learner meets the eligibility criteria these distance learning courses will be provided FREE OF CHARGE within the following guidelines: –

  • Learners must complete their training successfully within the agreed time scales which will be set at time of induction. Where work is not completed by the expected end date or the candidate withdraws from the course a standard £125 fee per person will be payable by the person undertaking the training.

All of our Distance Learning courses are fully-funded by the Government. In order to be eligible for this funding you should be aged 19+ and have lived in the European Union for 3 years or more.
