A Levels in Psychology, Sociology and an Applied General in Early Years.
Our Teaching Academy courses are available at Level/s 3
The Teaching Academy is made up of A Levels in Psychology, Sociology and an Applied General qualification in Early Years and is focused on developing you skills to help you progress to teacher training courses at university, and has been designed to contain complementary subjects to either work in primary education or within selected secondary subjects of the further education sector.
You will have a variety of work based opportunities including undertaking regular placements within local schools. You will also be able to gain additional qualifications in essential areas such as safeguarding and Fundamental British Values.
This pathway allows you to develop the skills and experiences to progress on to either primary or secondary education. Our uniquely planned timetable allows you to undertake regular work experience placements at local primary and secondary schools.
We also use experts from teacher training courses to help you prepare for these placements from helping you get the DBS checks carried out and gain additional teaching qualifications to help your secure your place at university. You will lead and participate in projects with local schools to help develop your confidence.
Working in education is extremely fulfilling and every day you’ll be able to use your skills to make a difference. The TEC Teaching Academy has been designed to give you a head start within the education sector.
English & Maths
If you haven’t achieved a GCSE Grade 4 (C) in English and/or Maths you will be required to either; take a Functional Skills qualification if you have achieved a Grade 1 or 2, or retake the GCSE if you’ve achieved Grade 3. You will be fully supported by our specialist team ahead of taking the exam.

Over two years you could study A Levels in Psychology and Sociology alongside and Applied General qualification in Early Years. You will improve your communication and analytical skills while developing an understanding of cognitive, behavioural, physiological and pastoral topics to give you an insight into the world of Teaching and prepare you for further study at University.
This course is assessed predominantly by examinations. This is very different to the other assessment types available at Level 3 at Scarborough TEC and is based around A Level study alongside the Applied General qualification in Early Years.
