About This Course

Computing is where you’ll learn through creativity; you’ll soon be building imaginative games, web apps, digital interfaces and interactive products. With a Computing qualification you will become future-proof as you leave as an in-demand fusion of creative thinker and technical expert. Utilising tools you are familiar with; from gamification, through to web development and open-source prototyping platforms, you’ll be working with the world around you to develop the skills you need to go into a computing career. The course is set up through a series of projects which are all industry focused, giving you a much greater understanding of the digital world. Working with real projects and local businesses, you will learn skills to become a true digital developer. Topics you will cover include: website design– building a website from start to finish, including using HTML 5, CSS and JavaScript you will construct a working site for a real client; systems architecture and cyber security – build a PC from the ground up, understanding how all the components link together to create a functioning system; and network security – including setting up and securing a network, ethical hacking, and intrusion detection systems.

Study at Level:

This course is offered at Levels 1,2 and 3.

What You Will Learn

At Level 2, you could study: • Hardware & Networking • Programming• Web Design• Graphics & Animation • Computer Games • Computer Game Platforms and Technology • Story Development for Computer Games• Mobile Application Design and Production • Producing Visual Assets for Mobile Devices. At Level 3, you could study: • Web Development• Systems Architecture and Cyber Security • Project Management• E-Commerce• Games Development• App Development.

Entry Requirements

Level 2 – You will require a minimum of 3 GCSEs grade 3 or above including Maths and English, or a Level 1 in your chosen subject. Level 3 Year 1 – You will require a minimum of 4 GCSEs grade 4 or above including Maths and English or a Level 2 in your chosen subject. Level 3 Year 2 - You will have successfully completed Level 3 Year 1. ENGLISH & MATHS If you haven’t achieved a GCSE Grade 4 (C) in English and/or Maths, you will be required to either; take a Functional Skills qualification if you have achieved a Grade 1 or 2, or retake the GCSE if you’ve achieved Grade 3. You will be fully supported by our specialist team.

Work Experience

At level 2 and above you are required to complete a work placement. This will be an external work placement within your industry of study.
