A career in construction allows you to work outdoors in a variety of locations, meaning each day is a different challenge and experience. With the rise in digital industries, many traditional career options are becoming obsolete, however learning a trade which will allow you to work in construction is something that will continue to be vital and very much in demand. Choosing to study Brickwork at Scarborough TEC will allow you to benefit from the experience and knowledge of the many regional businesses we work with, as well as the guidance and support of our experienced tutors. You’ll learn about safe working practices, building methods and construction technology as well as basic brick and block laying techniques in our industry-standard workshops. Additional skills and knowledge you will gain on this programme include life skills from across automotive, construction and building services, workshop licence and green technologies such as insulation values, soundproofing, thermal qualities and renewable energies.

What You Will Learn

You’ll learn about safe working practices, building methods and construction technology as well as basic brick and block laying techniques in our industry-standard workshops.

Entry Requirements

Level 1 entry – You will require GCSEs grade 1/2 or equivalent, including Foundation Awards and Entry Level Certificates.
Level 2 entry – You will require a minimum of 3 GCSEs grade 3 or above including English and Maths.
Level 3 entry – You will require an appropriate Level 2 qualification in your chosen subject area plus a GCSE grade 4 (C) or equivalent in English & Maths, or at least 4 GCSE grade 9-4 including Maths and English.

ENGLISH & MATHS
If you haven’t achieved a GCSE Grade 4 (C) in English and/or Maths, you will be required to either; take a Functional Skills qualification if you have achieved a Grade 1 or 2, or retake the GCSE if you’ve achieved Grade 3. You will be fully supported by our specialist team.

Work Experience

There is an expectation each learner will undertake work experience, This can be arranged by the learner with the help of the college team to ensure that the placement is maintaining a safe working environment or potentially work experience may be offered through the colleges companies already providing placements for apprentices.

Trips, Visits & Guest Speakers

As part of the study Programme, Learners will have the opportunity to visit relevant work environments and/or manufacturers to gain an understanding of the processes of the industry. Parental/guardian permission for trip is essential and will be sought at the beginning of the course to prevent delays or disappointment.

What Next?

During your course, we ensure you develop employability skills and gain the relevant experience for your next steps. We provide information, advice and support when completing your course and progressing to work or going into further study. When applying for university, we can provide support with the UCAS application and Student Finance. Once you’ve completed a Level 3 qualification, you could progress into employment or further your studies with a degree-level qualification.
