Music isn’t just a vocation, it’s a passion. Study at Scarborough TEC and you explore your passion for music in our fantasTEC practise and performance spaces. Enjoy music workshops with our industry experts, record in one of our professional music studios and take part in Q&A sessions with successful musicians, gaining a great insight into the industry.
You will also have the opportunity to perform at local events, create your own album or EP and compose for film and video, giving you the real industry experience you need for your dream career.
Study across Levels 1, 2 and 3 and explore all aspects of the music industry, from performance techniques and music technology to composition and music business studies. Live performance, digital production and recording are at the core of your study time, as well as mixing, mastering and music promotion and marketing.
Theoretical aspects are covered, as well as developing instrumental skills and using compositional software. You will also future proof your skills with innovative topics such as genre blending, hologram performance and sustainability in music.
Whether you aspire to be centre stage, or are looking at work behind the scenes, this course will equip you with the necessary skills to succeed in this exciting, thriving and diverse industry.
Study at Level:
This course is offered at Levels 1,2 and 3.
At Level 1, you could study: • Introduction to music, performing and production arts• Introduction to research• Communicating with an audience • Production development• Performance development.
At Level 2, you could study: • Using a digital audio workstation (DAW)• Remix and production• Composing styles• Careers in music• Marketing and promotion• Instrumental study• Using a keyboard with a DAW.
At Level 3, you could study: • Event management• Promotion• Live music performance• Music video production• Instrumental study• Composing for TV and film• Remixing and studio engineering.
These courses are assessed through a combination of practical tasks and written assignments, which demonstrate skills development.
Level 1 – You will require GCSE grades 1/2 or equivalent including Foundation Awards and Entry Certificates.Level 2 – You will require 3 GCSEs grade 2 or above, including Maths or English or a L1 qualification in related subject.Level 3 – You will require 4 GCSEs Grade 4 or above including Maths and English.
ENGLISH & MATHS If you haven’t achieved a GCSE Grade 4 (C) in English and/or Maths, you will be required to either; take a Functional Skills qualification if you have achieved a Grade 1 or 2, or retake the GCSE if you’ve achieved Grade 3. You will be fully supported by our specialist team.
At level 2 and above you are required to complete a work placement. This will be an external work placement within your industry of study.
During your course, we ensure you develop employability skills and gain the relevant experience for your next steps. We provide information, advice and support when completing your course and progressing to work or going into further study. When applying for university, we can provide support with the UCAS application and Student Finance. Once you’ve completed a Level 3 qualification, you could progress into employment or further your studies with an advanced or degree-level qualification.
