Our state-of-the-art, professional training salon will allow you to experience industry life under the guidance of our highly-trained, inspirational tutors. A typical day of study at Scarborough TEC could see you performing anything from body massage to a manicure and facial. Not only will you get to hear expert talks from industry professionals, but you will also go on exciting trips to professional hair and beauty shows.
You will develop skills in areas such as manicuring, pedicuring, make-up, skin and hand care, skin treatments and waxing techniques, as well as anatomy and physiology. You will also future proof your skills by preparing for the beauty industry of tomorrow, studying areas such as sustainability and biotech beauty.
Your face-to-face interaction and customer service skills will be honed and refined in our Image Salon, where you will work with real clients. You will also have the opportunity to do vital work experience, which will equip you with the skills and knowledge required for a career in this exciting and rewarding industry.
Study at Level:
Level 2
Level 3
At Level 2, you could study:
• Anatomy & Physiology
• Principles of practice for Beauty Therapy
• Hair removal
• Manicure treatments
• Pedicure treatments
• Light cured gel polish
• Lash and brow treatments
• Apply make-up services
• Tanning.
At Level 3, you could study:
• Lash and brow techniques
• Manicures
• Pedicures
• Hair removal
• Anatomy and physiology
• Principles of beauty therapy
• Massage.
Level 2 – Minimum of 3 GCSEs grade 3 or above, including Maths and English.
Level 3 – You will require a minimum of 4 GCSEs grade 3 or above including Maths and English and minimum of Level 2 in your chosen subject.
ENGLISH & MATHS
If you haven’t achieved a GCSE Grade 4 (C) in English and/or Maths, you will be required to either; take a Functional Skills qualification if you have achieved a Grade 1, or retake the GCSE if you’ve achieved Grade 2 or 3. You will be fully supported by our specialist team.
You will be expected to undertake work experience in your chosen field as part of the full time course
Relevant trips may be offered throughout the duration of your course
During your course, we ensure you develop employability skills and gain the relevant experience for your next steps. We provide information, advice and support when completing your course and progressing to work or going into further study. When applying for university, we can provide support with the UCAS application and Student Finance. Once you’ve completed a Level 3 qualification, you could progress into employment, or further your studies by taking other qualifications at Level 4, such as a Diploma in Advanced Beauty Therapy Techniques.
