Animal Care
This course is delivered in partnership with Bridlington Animal Park and Basics Plus at Betton Farm, giving you the hands-on experience you need to progress in your dream career.
Our Animal Care courses are very practical, and will give you the chance to get up close and personal with a wide variety of animals. You will learn how to care for them in a variety of ways; from animal health, nursing, welfare, feeding and accommodation.
Study at Level:
This course is offered at Levels 1 and 2.
The practical aspects of this programme at Level 1 will be delivered at the facilities of our industry partner, Basics Plus, based at Betton Farm in Scarborough, one day each week.
At Level 2, the practical elements of the programme are delivered at Bridlington Animal Park, where you will have access to a wide variety of exotic animals and birds. You will also hear from guest speakers from across the industry and specialist areas such as exotics specialists and veterinary professionals, who will share their wealth of experience and knowledge with you.
You will also have the opportunity to future proof your skills by learning about sustainability in animal care, as well as innovative technologies such as pet wearables.
These courses are assessed through unit assessments as required.
Level 1 – You will require GCSEs grade 1 or equivalent, including Foundation Awards and Entry Level Certificates. Level 2 – You will require a minimum of 3 GCSEs at grade 3 or above including Maths and English.ENGLISH & MATHS If you haven’t achieved a GCSE Grade 4 (C) in English and/or Maths, you will be required to either; take a Functional Skills qualification if you have achieved a Grade 1 or 2, or retake the GCSE if you’ve achieved Grade 3. You will be fully supported by our specialist team.
This programme requires you to participate in a mandatory work placement. You must undertake 150 hours external work experience with a local employer within your industry of study.You could attend your placement at local farms, animal parks, aquariums or with animal charities.
During your course, we ensure you develop employability skills and gain the relevant experience for your next steps. We provide information, advice and support when completing your course and progressing to work or going into further study. When applying for university, we can provide support with the UCAS application and Student Finance. Once you’ve completed a Level 3 qualification, you could progress into employment or further your studies with a degree-level qualification.
