Uniformed & Public Services
Our Uniformed and Public Services course offers you a great insight into life as a member of the police, fire brigade, navy or other services such as the army or air force. Teamwork, fitness and leadership form the foundation of this practical?course. You will take part in fitness sessions, adventure activities,?drills and exercises to prepare you for life in some of the most physically demanding and vital job roles there are. Work experience opportunities include placements in local youth organisations, schools and events with the RAF, Royal Marines and the British Army.As well as teamwork and problem solving, you will venture into the outdoors to learn how to read maps and navigate, whilst also tackling issues such as mental and physical wellbeing and dealing with emergency incidents.You will also future proof your skills by learning about sustainability in uniformed and public services, as well as innovative technologies such as drones, artificial intelligence and global surveillance.
Study at Level:
This course is offered at Levels 2 and 3.
You will learn how the different Uniformed Services operate and the types of skills you will need to succeed. Units will include the following topics:• Investigating employment in the Uniformed Services• Teamwork and problem solving • Map reading and navigation• Adventurous activities.
These courses are assessed by building a portfolio of evidence through work packs, demonstrations, presentations and practical assessments.
Level 2 – You will require a minimum of 3 GCSEs grade 3 or above including Maths and English.Level 3 – You will require a minimum of 4 GCSEs grade 4 or above including Maths and English. To progress onto Year 2, you must have successfully completed Year 1.ENGLISH & MATHS If you haven’t achieved a GCSE Grade 4 (C) in English and/or Maths, you will be required to either; take a Functional Skills qualification if you have achieved a Grade 1 or 2, or retake the GCSE if you’ve achieved Grade 3. You will be fully supported by our specialist team.
At level 2 and above you are required to complete a work placement. This will be an external work placement within your industry of study.
During your course, we ensure you develop employability skills and gain the relevant experience for your next steps. We provide information, advice and support when completing your course and progressing to work or going into further study. When applying for university, we can provide support with the UCAS application and Student Finance. Once you’ve completed a Level 3 qualification, you could progress into employment in one of the uniformed or public services, or further your studies with a degree-level qualification.
