Scarborough TEC is set to host a 12-hour Macmillan Darts Marathon on Wednesday 26th February from 7am to 7pm.
Organised by Andy Vaughan, a success coach at Scarborough TEC, this event aims to raise awareness about prostate and testicular cancer, now the leading cause of cancer-related deaths in men. Many of these deaths could be prevented if not for ignorance and embarrassment, and our goal is to encourage open conversations, particularly among young men to break the stigma and ultimately save lives.
This important initiative is not just for men as the event will highlight other critical topics such as mental health and suicide prevention creating a safe space where people feel comfortable discussing these serious matters.
Several key organisations will be attending throughout the day including The Samaritans, Andy’s Man Club, Women’s Wellbeing, Macmillan Nurses, and the Wellbeing in Mind Team. They will be on hand to speak with students and staff while perhaps even joining in for a game of darts!
We will also be running a raffle featuring incredible prizes generously donated by local businesses and sports clubs. Scarborough Athletic Football Club has donated a signed team shirt, and Scarborough Rugby Club has also provided a prize. Additional fantastic contributions have come from local businesses such as Secret Spot Surf Shop, MKM, and Roscoe Rooms which has kindly supplied dartboards for the day.
To add to the excitement a darts competition will take place throughout the event—who knows, we may even discover the next Luke Littler!
Both students and staff have put in a tremendous effort to support this fantastic cause, and any donations would be greatly appreciated. If you would like to contribute, click on our dedicated page: https://dartsmarathon.macmillan.org.uk/users/andrew-vaughan-2
Every donation makes a difference. Let’s come together to support Macmillan Cancer Support and create a day of open conversation, awareness, and community spirit!
