Our HNC Manufacturing Engineering for England has been aligned with the occupational standard for Engineering Manufacturing Technician and approved by the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education (IfATE).
Higher Technical Qualifications (HTQs) have been approved to meet relevant sector occupational standards.
The Pearson BTEC Level 4 Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Manufacturing Engineering for England (HTQ) bridges academic excellence with real-world industry practice. Developed in partnership with leading employers, professional bodies, and higher education providers, this qualification prepares you to become a reflective, professionally competent engineer capable of thriving in today’s advanced manufacturing environments.
What Makes This Qualification Distinctive
The programme delivers a rigorous curriculum that integrates theoretical principles with hands-on application, ensuring you gain both the intellectual framework and practical competencies demanded by modern industry. You’ll develop technical expertise alongside critical problem-solving abilities, positioning yourself at the forefront of manufacturing innovation.
Career-Focused Learning
Through industry-informed modules, you’ll master essential manufacturing processes, quality management systems, lean production methodologies, and emerging technologies such as automation and digital manufacturing. The curriculum emphasises real-world scenarios, enabling you to apply classroom learning directly to workplace challenges.
You will be required to complete the following mandatory units:
Students will typically hold a BTEC Level 3 Diploma or Extended Diploma (or equivalent) in a relevant Engineering discipline. Applicants are also required to have English and Maths GCSE (or equivalent) at grade C/4. Other level 3 qualifications will be considered upon their merits.
We welcome applications from applicants who may not have met the academic criteria, but who can demonstrate experience in their chosen field. Candidates in this category are likely to be interviewed to assess their suitability for the course and may be asked to provide a portfolio of evidence to support their application.
Teaching is delivered through a combination of lectures, seminars, blended learning and practical sessions. Learners engage with core concepts in lectures before exploring them through interactive seminars and hands‑on activities. Practical workshops, demonstrations and guided tasks are used to reinforce understanding and build confidence in applying engineering principles.
Holders of a Pearson BTEC Higher National in Engineering meet the academic requirements for the Engineering Council Engineering Technician Standard (EngTech).
This HNC opens doors to diverse manufacturing careers, including Engineering Technician, Manufacturing Technician, Integration and Test Technician, and Production Technician roles. Upon successful completion, you could progress directly to a HND in Manufacturing Engineering or gain advanced entry to a bachelor’s degree programme across various engineering disciplines, creating a clear pathway to chartered engineer status.
We try to keep the application process as simple as possible, but it’s important that you apply as soon as you’ve chosen your course so that we can arrange your interview and get you started on the admissions process.
