About this course

About this apprenticeship

They install, test, fault-find, repair, modify and maintain equipment to meet safety, quality, delivery and cost targets. They prepare and document maintenance work, communicate with stakeholders and safely hand over completed tasks.

Technicians may work in factories, workshops, hangars or outdoors, sometimes at height, in confined spaces or around high voltages, pressures and other hazards. They are responsible for the quality and safety of their work, following legal and organisational requirements, working independently or as part of a team, and maintaining their tools, equipment and professional development.

This Level 3 apprenticeship has an approximate duration of 42 months and delivery is on a day-release college mode from Scarborough TEC, Filey Road, Scarborough, YO11 3AZ.

What you Will Learn

  • Use digital tools for documentation, communication and information management
  • Interpret drawings, specifications, manuals and maintenance documentation
  • Plan maintenance activities, including resources, methods and timescales
  • Follow health, safety, risk assessment, isolation and safe working procedures
  • Diagnose and repair complex electrical, mechanical, electronic, fluid power and control systems
  • Carry out planned, preventative and reactive maintenance, including testing and condition monitoring
  • Select, use and maintain appropriate tools, equipment, materials and measuring instruments
  • Maintain accurate records, programmes, reports and technical documentation
  • Apply environmental, sustainability, housekeeping and continuous improvement practices
  • Communicate professionally, work inclusively, take responsibility for safety and continue professional development.
