About this course

About this apprenticeship

They work on all vehicle systems, from replacing basic parts to diagnosing and repairing complex faults using specialist equipment. They may also order parts and work with other departments.

Technicians must work efficiently, manage resources responsibly and dispose of waste safely and sustainably. They also need to keep up with new vehicle technologies, including zero-emission vehicles and maintain high standards of workmanship and customer service.

This Level 3 apprenticeship has an approximate duration of 36 months and delivery is on a day-release college mode from Scarborough TEC, Filey Road, Scarborough, YO11 3AZ, UK

What you Will Learn

  • Follow health, safety, environmental, legal and ethical requirements when servicing and repairing vehicles
  • Understand how the automotive business operates and contribute to its efficiency and targets
  • Maintain tools, equipment and a safe, organised workshop
  • Carry out routine servicing, inspections and vehicle repairs to required standards
  • Understand vehicle systems, components, electrical circuits, steering, suspension, braking, engines and transmissions
  • Diagnose faults using technical information, wiring diagrams, diagnostic equipment and logical problem-solving methods
  • Repair faults correctly, test repaired components and report any further work required
  • Understand emissions, alternative fuels, hybrid and electric vehicles, including future zero-emission requirements
  • Communicate effectively, work well with colleagues and customers, and complete required documentation
  • Take responsibility for work, support teamwork, improve efficiency, share knowledge and continue developing skills.
