About this course

About this apprenticeship

The role combines office-based duties with time spent at the work front, providing advice and support to ensure safe and responsible working practices. The Technician will work closely with management and delivery teams to ensure legal and company SHE requirements are understood and implemented.

Key responsibilities will include developing and reviewing safe systems of work, delivering training such as toolbox talks and inductions, investigating incidents, analysing data and reporting findings to management. The SHE Technician will also help promote a strong safety, health and environmental culture by influencing and supporting others to work responsibly, protect themselves and others, and minimise the impact of operations on the environment.

What you Will Learn

  • Adapt written and verbal communication to different audiences and deliver engaging training and presentations.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, clients, suppliers and the public, leading by example and adapting to change.
  • Challenge unsafe behaviour, influence others positively, resolve conflicts and support equality and diversity.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement and recommend sustainable solutions using professional judgement.
  • Work within legal, ethical and professional requirements, recognise personal limitations and seek advice when needed.
  • Help develop, implement and monitor SHE systems, policies, procedures, inspections, training and workplace controls.
  • Recognise hazards, assess risks and support the safe use of equipment, materials and working practices in line with legal requirements.
  • Collect and analyse SHE data, maintain accurate records and assist with investigations into accidents, incidents and near misses.
  • Keep up to date with legislation and best practice, while supporting relationships with regulators, occupational health and other stakeholders.
  • Apply knowledge of legislation, management systems, risk assessment, human behaviour, emergency planning and incident prevention, while understanding the financial and reputational impact of SHE decisions.

Learning & Teaching Methods

This Level 3 apprenticeship is wholly work based and delivered through independent study and workplace visits by a Vocational Trainer Coach.

What Next?

On completion of this programme, apprentices will be fully qualified and experienced Safety, Health and Environment Technician.
