Teaching Assistant
The Teaching Assistant (TA) works across primary, secondary, special schools, alternative provision and further education, supporting learners of all ages and abilities. Their main role is to help teachers improve learners’ progress and development through individual and small-group support. About this apprenticeship
Teaching Assistants adapt activities to meet different needs, including SEND, EAL and social, emotional and mental health needs. They work closely with teachers, education professionals, parents and carers while following safeguarding, safety and organisational policies to create a safe and supportive learning environment.
This Level 3 apprenticeship is wholly work based and delivered through independent study and workplace visits by a Vocational Trainer Coach.
What you Will Learn
- Understand child and young person development and how transitions can affect learning and wellbeing
- Support learning through appropriate resources, technology, teaching strategies, interventions and enrichment activities
- Set learning targets and understand the curriculum, assessment, feedback and learning cycle
- Use formative assessment, observation, recording and reporting to monitor learner progress
- Adapt communication, resources and teaching approaches to meet different learners’ abilities and needs
- Promote independent learning through strategies such as scaffolding, questioningand targeted support
- Build positive relationships with learners, teachers, parents and other professionals while understanding the TA’s role
- Support learners’ behaviour, wellbeing, mental health and pastoral needs, referring concerns when appropriate
- Follow safeguarding, Prevent, health and safety, equality, diversity, inclusion and organisational requirements
- Act professionally, reflect on practice, use research to improve delivery and work collaboratively as a positive role model.
What Next?
On completion of this programme, apprentices will be fully qualified and experienced Teaching Assistants. Allowing progression onto Level 5 apprenticeships such as Learning and Skills Teacher.
