If you’re aged over 19 and looking to improve your knowledge of English, mathematics or ICT, Scarborough TEC is offering a range of part-time Functional Skills courses from September 2021 that will help you achieve a qualification that is recognised by most UK universities as an alternative to a GCSE.
Functional Skills in English and mathematics offer a practical alternative to study and are being offered at Entry Levels 1, 2 & 3 and Levels 1 & 2 at the College, with Functional Skills ICT being available at Levels 1 & 2.
Each of the courses teaches skills based around examples and situations you may find in everyday life. Clare Haigh, Head of Creative and Community at Scarborough TEC, explained: “The advantage of Functional Skills qualifications is the possibility of learning new skills and techniques that reflect situations we may find ourselves in every day.
“They teach skills that we all need, but do it by looking at realistic examples that we all come across; for example, Functional Skills ICT covers a broad range of the Microsoft packages that are used in our working lives, for education and personally.
“Achieving a Level 2 Functional Skills qualification is equivalent to a GCSE and is accepted by many universities in the UK, this makes it an ideal choice for someone who is considering going onto an Access to Higher Education course or a Foundation Degree programme or even for anyone who wants to learn for fun or learn more about the world around them.”
Anyone interested in the Functional Skills in English, mathematics or ICT at Scarborough TEC can contact the Student Recruitment team by email to [email protected] or can apply through the website at scarboroughTEC.ac.uk/part-time.
