Scarborough TEC Apprentice named IMI Student of the Year

Scarborough TEC Automotive Apprentice, Matthew White, has been announced as the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) Level 2 Student of the Year 2019.

17-year-old Matthew, who is currently training as a Level 2 Apprentice at Dennis Distribution in Malton, was presented with the trophy at the annual awards ceremony, held in Hull.

Matthew said: “When I came on an open evening I thought it was the best College I’d been to; the facilities are a lot better than others and the new Automotive, Construction and Engineering Centre was being built too.

“When you work with different people it motivates you to work even harder. We learn a lot of different skills in the Garage and at College.  My boss is really proud of me for winning the award and I really appreciate being put forward for it.  I’m going to go on to the Level 3 course when I finish this one.”

Simon Gummerson, Head of Automotive, Construction & Engineering at Scarborough TEC added: “The IMI Awards are important because they recognise the talent and the hard work of the Apprentices who are the future of the industry.

“Matthew is a really hard-working Apprentice and he puts a lot of effort into his work and assignments.  This is fantastic recognition for Matthew, his employer and Scarborough TEC as an organisation that he has achieved this accolade.”
