Scarborough TEC is holding an event in their on-campus Restaurant, Nineteen09, for International Women’s Day on Thursday 7thMarch and are calling all past female students to submit their ideas for either a starter, main course or dessert, that they will then be invited to prepare and cook, along with the assistance of staff and students, for the special event.
International Women’s Day is held annually on 8thMarch and was originally founded by the Socialist Party of America in New York in 1909, the same year Scarborough TEC’s Filey Road Campus was built.
This will be the first event of its kind at the College, as Ann Hardy – Principal, explained: “Scarborough TEC has a long history of developing talent in the Hospitality industry and has produced some of the top Chefs working in our region today. We have celebrated some of our Michelin-Starred alumni in the past, but they have generally always been males.
“This gave us the idea to hold an event to celebrate women who work in the industry. We have invited some very special guests who will be coming in to talk about their careers during the event too.
“We’re excited to be able to open up our kitchen for our former female students and we hope they will recognise the value of taking part in this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”
Anyone interested can simply email their name, phone number and information about what they would like to cook by Friday 15thFebruary to [email protected]
The best Starter, Main and Dessert course will be chosen by the Scarborough TEC team and the winner will be invited to cook the meal for almost 50 dignitaries with the assistance of Scarborough TEC students and the professional Catering & Hospitality team on 7thMarch.
