Twenty-year-old Harmony Cockram, a Foundation Level student from Scarborough TEC, returned triumphant from the Inclusive Skills ICT Competition at World Skills Live where she was awarded a Silver Medal.
The Inclusive Skills Competitions, part of WorldSkills UK, were held at Birmingham NEC and enable young people with learning difficulties and disabilities to showcase their work skills and growing independence.
Programme Leader for Foundation Level Programmes, Lisa Routledge, explained: “For the competition Harmony was given a document that she had to type in while making lots of alterations to various things; the size of the text and the font, while cutting and pasting pictures into it.
“We’ve been practising these things in class so it was really nice to see all of the skills we’ve been learning in College transferred to this new setting. Harmony did really well and we’re all very proud of her!”
Harmony added: “I enjoyed going to World Skills and my favourite thing was seeing the robot and giving it a hug. I didn’t know I’d won a medal and it was a really nice surprise.”
