Transport to Scarborough TEC

For all students aged 16-18 years who are eligible to access a bursary we are able to offer free travel, using a local transport service, providing they live 2.1 miles or more away from their place of study, and have an annual household income of less than £24k and are training on one of our full-time courses.

Any student who is not eligible or who is 19+ and studying on a full-time programme will be eligible for a discounted ticket on their chosen bus route.

How to get your East Yorkshire Buses Scarborough TEC Bus Pass

Go to Google Play or the App Store and search for ‘East Yorkshire Buses’ – download the app to your phone (it’s free!).

Do this prior to enrolment or on the day of enrolment if you can, or as soon as possible afterwards. If you don’t download the app by 9 am on Thursday 2nd September 2021, your pass may not be ready for the start of term and you will have to pay for bus fares until it is ready, with no refunds available.

Fully funded passes

New and continuing students can apply for a fully-funded pass. Students must complete a Student Transport eligibility form and return it with the appropriate evidence to the Transport Desk at our Filey Road Campus during enrolment or email the form with the appropriate evidence attached to [email protected] before 2nd September 2021.

All students should download the app, create an account using the email address given on the eligibility form. Please make sure that you spell your email address correctly or your ticket will not arrive. You will receive a code to the email address given – once you have received it go to the app and go to mobile tickets once you are logged in you can enter your 12 – digit passcode. It is important you lookout for this email. – it may go into your spam/junk file, if for any reason you do not receive your passcode please email [email protected] and we will resend it to you.

You’ll be able to activate your ticket on the first day of term

If you change phones please let the Student Support Team know so we can that East Yorkshire Buses know.

Please remember, when using the app you can only use it on your phone. If you try to open your account on another phone (ie. To try and give someone else your ticket) the app will block you for a day and you won’t be able to use your ticket, and you will have to pay for your bus fares on the bus during this time. No refunds are available.

For paying students (discounted Scarborough TEC pass)

On the East Yorkshire Buses app menu, tap ‘Mobile Tickets’ and choose the ‘Scarborough TEC’ section. Choose the appropriate ticket. Scarborough TEC sta can advise you which ticket to get if you are unsure. Choose the ticket, and tap ‘create an account’ Make sure the email address you sign up with is your Scarborough TEC email address (make sure you check the spelling!) or the email address the college has for you, and choose a password, then click ‘Sign up’. You can now pay by debit/credit card, Apple Pay or Google Pay. You’ll also have to upload a photo, which you can take using your phone – make sure it’s a sensible photo – no filters! You must do this by 9am on Thursday 2nd September 2021. Your ticket will be validated and ready to use on your device by the first day of term.

On the first day, you’re going to travel, activate the ticket, and then simply show the pass on your device to the bus driver or scan it when you board the bus. If you don’t sign up to the app and choose your ticket by the deadline, your pass may not be ready for the start of term and you will have to pay for bus fares until it is ready, with no refunds available.

If your parents/guardians are buying your ticket for you, They can go to the website www.eastyorkshirebuses.co.uk they click on ‘buy tickets’ in the top right-hand corner, scroll down to the Scarborough TEC tickets and follow the instructions. The student should download the app onto their phone, and create an account as above. The student should then tap ‘mobile tickets’ and ‘redeem a gift code’ and tap in the code you’ve given them. They should then follow the
instructions on the screen to add a photo, and then their ticket will be ready to use.

Please make sure that you have either filled out a travel eligibility form or informed [email protected] that you are buying a discounted pass with the email that you have used for your account so that your pass can be verified that you are a student.

Non – Funded Travel

The Arriva Ticket – the annual price is £510.50 per academic year, the cost for this is £51.05 per month. This gives the most affordable option for bus ticketing (valid 7 days a week), alternatively, tickets can be bought via the Arriva M Ticket app or on the bus. Arriva has a page dedicated to our tickets to apply for a permit.

  • The cost of an annual ticket is divided by 10 months for the academic year and the monthly Direct Debit payment is based on that calculation – £51.05 per month
  • Direct debit payments are taken on the 1st or 15th of each month, dependent on the date of application.
  • For payments on the 1st your tickets will be dispatched thereaer and commence on 12th of the month. For payments on the 15th your tickets will be dispatched thereaer and commence on 27th of each month
  • Dependent on your payment date your monthly ticket will expire at midnight on the 11th or 26th of the following month
  • Your next ticket will automatically be sent directly to your registered m-ticket app every month before the current expiration, as long as your Direct Debit remains active.
  • Your payment will remain the same each month unless we notify you otherwise
  • Annual tickets paid via direct debit from a rolling contract, these tickets will not expire until
    instructed to do so via your bank.
  • This scheme is valid for passengers travelling on Arriva buses, and tickets are valid in the zone chosen only
  • If your direct debit fails or is cancelled, you will not receive your ticket for the following month

Please note: for tickets to be ready for your first day of college you will need to have your direct debit set up to be taken on the 15th August 2021, for it to be live for the 27th August 2021, if they are set for the 1st September your ticket will not be live until the 12th September 2021.

Please report lost tickets to [email protected] immediately, a replacement ticket will be sent to you and a fee of £25 will be added to your next direct debit.
