While working in our state-of-the-art professional salon, Image, you will develop skills in shampooing, conditioning, styling, colouring, cutting and perming hair all of which are essential in gaining employment or when working on a self-employed basis.
Competition can be fierce so you need to set yourself apart from the rest of the crowd. Male grooming is also an ever-increasing industry and experienced, creative barbers are more in demand than ever. With many other careers and industry areas disappearing from the high street as a result of the rise in digital markets, hairdressing and barbering is one career that cannot be replicated online.
Work experience could include working on fashion shoots, theatre productions and involvement in competitions, both locally and nationally. Image is open to the public so you’ll have the chance to work with a wide range of clientele enabling you to practice treatments and hone not just your practical skills but areas like customer service skills, handling money and stock control.
English & Maths
If you haven’t achieved a GCSE Grade 4 (C) in English and/or Maths you will be required to either; take a Functional Skills qualification if you have achieved a Grade 1 or 2, or retake the GCSE if you’ve achieved Grade 3. You will be fully supported by our specialist team ahead of taking the exam.

These courses are assessed through a series of assignments and subject evidence provided through the building of a portfolio. The course is also assessed through a series of observations and examinations and, at Level 3, a mandatory work placement will take place.
