Careers Advice

The Careers team at Scarborough TEC are here to assist you in making informed decisions and to help you plan the next steps towards your future goals. Our Careers Advisors can provide you with the information, advice and guidance you need when applying to work, college, university or for an apprenticeship.

We provide a high quality, confidential and impartial guidance service. This is freely available to current students and potential students of any age who are thinking of attending Scarborough TEC. Alumni can also access the careers service on request.

We hold the National Quality in Careers Standard, Humber LEP Employability Passport and we have Matrix accreditation.

Scarborough TEC provides:

  • A stable and structured careers programme, aligned to the Gatsby Benchmarks
  • Access to high quality advice about future study options and labour market information
  • A range of activities to enable you to develop your employability skills by meeting with employers and learning about the world of work, as well as experiences of the workplace
  • A range of opportunities to meet future providers of further, higher and postgraduate education, apprenticeships and training
  • The opportunity for one-to-one guidance meetings with a professional Careers Advisor, that are both impartial and confidential
  • A dedicated Careers Leader, Tamarra Taylor, Executive Director of Learner Services.

We can offer you information that may help you support your dependants, for example information about progression pathways or labour market information. Please contact us if we can be of assistance.

Employers

Please contact us if you would like more information about our services, how we can collaborate around careers information, advice and guidance or if you would like to be referred to our excellent Skills and Employability Team.

Students

Can book a confidential one to one appointment with the team to look at all of their progression options including:

  • Your Next Steps into Further Education (Preparing for your Future)
  • University (Supporting your Aspirations and Progression)
  • Apprenticeships
  • Employment
  • Training Opportunities
  • Throughout the year the team delivers a comprehensive programme of workshops that can be booked for both staff and learners including topics such as UCAS Registration, Personal Statement Writing and Student Finance.

Resources

The Careers Advice Team can provide learners with a range of information, advice and guidance to support them to make informed choices regarding their next steps, we also have a variety of resources and tools aimed at supporting students, parents and carers when considering their career-based decisions.

Buzz quiz – A personality quiz that determines what jobs suit your personality and discover your strengths.

Prospects – Career Planner matches your skills, motivations and desires to a career that’s perfect for you. To get even more from your results, take them to your college career adviser.

The Strategic Careers Lead for the TEC Partnership is Tamarra Taylor, Group Executive Director of Learner Services, who along with our Group Head of Careers, Admissions and Bursaries Susan Wells, are Qualified as Level 7 Careers Leaders.
