Scarborough TEC celebrates first successful open event

Ahead of Scarborough TEC’s successful first open event last weekend, Justine Greening MP, Secretary of State for Education, visited Yorkshire Coast College to hear all about the plans for the future of education in Scarborough from Gill Alton, CEO of the TEC Partnership and Ann Hardy, Principal of Scarborough TEC, at a special breakfast meeting held at the college’s Fledgling’s Restaurant.

Scarborough TEC is the region’s newest college, opening in September 2017, with a clear focus on training, education and careers for everyone. The college forms part of the TEC Partnership, as leading provider of further and higher education and training in the North East of England.

The MP was in Scarborough as part of a two-day visit to the region that included the launch of Scarborough UTC, where hospitality was provided by Michelin Starred Chef, Andrew Pern, Chef Patron of The Star Inn at Harome, assisted by Matt Bellamy, Curriculum Manager for Visitor Economy, and a team of staff and learners who will be joining Scarborough TEC when it opens in September.

Justine Greening MP, Secretary of State for Education, wished everyone at Scarborough TEC all the best for their opening. Justine said: “Scarborough TEC is going to knit together some of the fantastic career opportunities that are available locally with great young people.  We have just been at a breakfast meeting with lots of local business people served by the great young people who will be training through Scarborough TEC.

“One of the things that Scarborough TEC is known for is the wonderful history for hospitality and catering training.  What that tells you is that this is a real place that can help young people have different and modern careers and I wish everyone good luck for their opening.”

The busy first open event saw prospective learners visit the University of Hull’s campus on Filey Road, the home for Scarborough TEC from September 2017, to find out more about the potential career opportunities available nationally and locally from the college’s tutors and support staff.

Why not visit Scarborough TEC’s next open event, being held at Yorkshire Coast College’s Lady Edith’s Drive campus, on Wednesday 8th February from 5pm-7.30pm, to find out what the buzz is all about?
